** Facility Briefs – Arc heater facility briefs should include information on topics below. The objective is to provide essential information supporting ground test customers in design of aerothermal materials/ structures evaluations.  Information on facility characterization is of particular importance in defining actual test environments on customer samples. Pending/planned facility or infrastructure modifications/upgrades are also of interest.

SafeNet delivery of presentation materials to the conference organizer (GDIT) for inclusion in the Symposium electronic proceedings should be coordinated through Michelle Williams, symposium coordinator.

Suggested Topics for Inclusion:

  • Overview of Facility and Infrastructure
  • Facility configurations
    • Nozzles available: throat-exit diameters and nozzle type(s) (conical, contoured)
    • Test rhombus (measured flow maps)
  • Typical sample sizes
  • Design chamber pressure/enthalpy maps for the given nozzles
  • Altitude chamber capabilities
  • Run times per sting, run time constraints
  • Calorimetry/flow probes  used for flow characterization
    • Simulation maps for surface pressure, heat flux on generic test articles
    • CFD coupled to data comparisons
  • Typical test sting configurations
  • Water-cooling capabilities for test fixtures (flow rates, pressures)
  • Measurement diagnostics available (surface temp,wavelengths/TCs, ablation rate sensors, pressures, phase change, etc.)
  • Programs/materials tested at the facility
  • Current/projected upgrades (also show links to Hypersonic T&E BAA, CTEIP)
  • Typical costs for test series
  • Scheduling requirements
  • Technical/financial POCs for facility test planning
    • Technical
    • Instrumentation
    • Test Operations
    • Financial/contracting
