The 2008 Technology Maturity Conference (TMC) is an
international event organized and supported by the Air Force Research
Laboratory (AFRL) with representation from all three services and the
Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). At last year’s event, we were
joined by representatives from the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA), the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the
Department of Energy (DOE), and the Canadian Armed Forces as well as
participants from industry and academia.
This year over 100 participants from government, academia, and industry
are expected to attend. We again anticipate participation from NASA,
DOE, and the GAO is, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) and a wider involvement from the international community. |
There are many different
representations of the technology life cycle. One useful
graphical visualization of the life cycle plots usefulness or
utility against time, as shown below. A technology’s utility
increases with time as it matures. As the technology approaches
obsolescence, its utility starts to decrease. The shape of the
chart that plots utility against time is roughly representative
of a whale, hence the name “Whale Chart,” and the origin of our
conference logo.

The agenda will consist of presentations offered by industry, academia
and government representatives. Keynote speeches will kick off the
presentations on two of the days. The agenda includes a generous amount
of time for networking and side discussions during poster sessions.
Industry and academia representatives are invited to present tutorial
poster displays, demos and/or pop up, table-top exhibits on the use of
their products / tools. For complete details, see the TMC
Exhibits
