Abstract:   The Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies has as its mission the use of nanotechnology to enable unprecedented survivability for the soldier. This institute is perhaps unique in that it combines physical space on a university campus with active partnering with the Army and Industry.  The ISN Founding Industrial Partners are Raytheon, DuPont and Partners Health Care (Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital ).  The MIT/Industry/Army team is working for protection of soldiers by integrating systems of nanosystems.  MIT is focused on basic 6.1 research and the industrial partners are concerned with applied 6.2 research and beyond with the goal of providing prototypes to the Army for evaluation.  This presents a major challenge to the university-industry-Army team.  This talk will describe the ISN approach to technology transitioning, including the down select of ISN projects, the discovery and filing of appropriate IP as well as the methods of the 6.2 program to provide affordable, innovative solutions for revolutionary protection of the Future Force Warrior.
